Students welcome at ‘ultimate block party’

UC Davis students have discovered the Davis Farmers Market a few blocks from campus in Central Park.

During the warmer months, they can be seen filling their baskets on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. And, the market is a popular hangout for students connecting with their friends over music and food. (The East Quad Farmers Market will reopen on campus in fall quarter beginning Wednesday, Sept. 24. The hours are 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the market continues every Wednesday afternoon through Nov. 19.)

The Davis Farmers Market is a true collaboration of the campus and community. More than 30 years ago, a group of UC Davis students planted the seed for what has become an integral part of the community.

This audio slideshow presents UC Davis senior Tara Butterworth’s perspective on the sights and sounds of the market, which she visits at least once a week. For Tara, the farmer’s market is her connection to the larger Davis community.
