Although Andrew's father and mother, John and Vicky Tan, will be at the media availability, they will not participate and request that they not be taped, photographed or interviewed. Background: Schooled at home since age six, Andrew passed the California High School Proficiency Exam when he was 9 years old. At 10, he began three years of studies at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. Although he was planning to become a doctor, a physics professor at the college got him interested in engineering. Andrew says he chose to transfer to UC Davis because of the reputation of the College of Engineering and the university's proximity to his East Bay Area home. After earning a bachelor's degree in engineering, Andrew says, he hopes to earn two master's degrees, one in engineering and the other in business administration. Henry House of Davis was schooled at home since age 7, and at age 8, began auditing courses at UC Davis. By age 11, he was taking courses for credit through the university's Open Campus. At 16, he was admitted to UC Davis as a senior, studying full time in the spring 1998 quarter, part time in fall 1998 and winter 1999, and then full time again in spring 1999. In June at age 17, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in natural history from UC Davis. Now 18, he works at his family's business, House Agricultural Consultants.
