-- Two UC Davis professors have received 1999 Excellence in Professional/Scholarly Publishing awards from the Association of American Publishers, Professional and Scholarly Publishing Division. A book by UC Davis mathematics professor emeritus Donald Benson, "The Moment of Proof: Mathematical Epiphanies," was recognized for excellence in the mathematical sciences. "The Porphyrin Handbook," co-edited by Kevin Smith, UC Davis chemistry professor and vice chancellor for research, together with Karl M. Kadish from the University of Houston and Roger Guilard from the University of Bourgogne in Dijon, France, was honored in the chemistry category. The award recognizes excellence in book, journal, and electronic publishing in all of the disciplines represented by professional, scholarly and reference publishing.
