WHAT: Approximately 2,000 high school students from throughout California will test their skills in 22 competitive events during the 17th annual Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Field Day, which has become something of a youthful "Olympics" of agriculture in the state. Sponsored in part by UC Davis' College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the campus event also offers high school students the opportunity to become acquainted with the college environment.
WHEN: Friday, March 5, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday, March 6, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
WHERE: Events begin in Freeborn Hall, then move to competition sites on campus
VISUALS: Friday Parliamentary Procedure contest
Finals at 7:30 p.m.
FFA students display their abilities to conduct official meetings according to Roberts Rules of Order. This event will be in Memorial Union II.
Saturday morning competitions

-- Livestock judging: In one of the largest competitions of the day, students demonstrate their knowledge of cattle, sheep and pigs in the judging arena. To be held at the Cole Facility.
-- Light horse: Students judge different classes of Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds and Arabians. To be held at the Cole Facility.
-- Floriculture: Students create flower arrangements and corsages, and judge flowers. To be held at Environmental Horticulture.
-- State finals for agricultural sales competition: Students deliver a mock sales presentation. To be held at Olson Hall.
-- Farm power: Demonstrating their proficiency in handling large agricultural equipment, students maneuver tractors through an obstacle course. To be held in Parking Lot 44.
-- Meats: In the meat cooler, students judge various carcasses and cuts of meat. To be held at the Cole Facility.
-- Dairy products: Students judge cheese, milk and other dairy products. To be held at Cruess Hall.
PARKING: See attached map for parking lots closest to individual competitions. News media may park weekdays in most places on campus for free, if vehicles are marked or a business card is placed on the dashboard. All parking is free on Saturdays.
