Abdul Barakat, assistant professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering at UC Davis, and Eric Clark, a graduate student in the neuroscience graduate group and trainee in the National Science Foundation Research Training Program in Nonlinear Dynamics in Biology, were awarded an American Heart Association Young Investigator Award at a recent Vascular Biology '98 meeting. Barakat and Clark's research "Shear stress-activated chloride-selective membrane current in vascular endothelial cells," is a collaborative project with Pam Pappone, UC Davis associate professor of neurobiology, physiology and behavior, and Peter Davies from the University of Pennsylvania.
