African American Cultural Event Marks 26th Year

The 26th annual African American Family Week, celebrating African American history and culture, will be held May 20-24 at UC Davis. Highlights of the week's activities include gospel singing, African American dancing, a cultural fair and a college motivational program. The festival also features lectures by Wade W. Nobles, executive director of the Institute for the Advanced Study of Black Family, Life and Culture and professor of ethnic studies at San Francisco State University. He will address the African American family. There also will be a unity forum on issues of importance to African Americans on university campuses. In addition, student organizers have a session set aside to talk about the cultural explosion that has brought inspiration and innovation to the arts. The discussion will center on the contributions blacks have made in the fields of jazz, poetry and hip-hop.
