The 25th annual African American Family Week, celebrating African American history and culture, will be held Monday through Friday, May 15-19, at the University of California, Davis.
With the theme "Building Bridges of Unity," this cultural days celebration includes lectures that highlight issues affecting African Americans and art and music reflecting the African American experience.
The week's events include:
• Physicians Billie Jean Pace and Denese O. Shervington on "Lifestyle Enhancement from an Afrocentric Perspective." Pace is an obstetrician and gynecologist in private practice in Florida; Shervington is family planning medical director in the Louisiana Office of Public Health.

• African storytelling workshop by Ellaraino, a storyteller from St. Thomas.

• African storytelling performance by Ellaraino.

• Askia Muhammad Abdulmajeed, assistant deputy director, State of California Alcohol and Drug Programs, on "Islam and African Americans."

• Gospel Extravaganza, featuring UC Davis' gospel choir directed by Calvin Lymos.
