What: The latest developments in modern farming technology will be demonstrated for the public during "AgTech '96" at the University of California, Davis. The two-day event will focus on technological developments related to vegetable crop production. Demonstrations will include robotic thinning and cultivating, precision planting and spraying, micro-irrigation and satellite-monitoring systems.
Some of the new technologies are available commercially, while others have just come out of university laboratories.
When: Friday and Saturday, June 21-22
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
(Identical programs will be offered each day.)
Visuals: Equipment will be in action in the planted fields. Computer-based technologies and biotechnology developments will be demonstrated in nearby classrooms.
Where: Outdoor demonstrations will be presented on a 20-acre experimental field west of the main UC Davis campus. From Interstate 80, head north on Highway 113 toward Woodland. Take the first exit onto Hutchison Drive. Turn left onto Hutchison and go west, crossing over Highway 113. Look for a "media parking" sign on the right, less than one-fourth mile down Hutchison. Free parking and information will be provided.
