AIDS and Other Viral Diseases Focus of Conference

A two-day research symposium on AIDS and other chronic viral infections will be sponsored by the UC Davis School of Medicine and the Universitywide AIDS Research Program on Oct. 8-9 at the California Regional Primate Research Center at UC Davis. The "Mini-Symposium on Viral Pathogenesis" will draw researchers from five universities, including speakers from UC Davis, UCLA, UC San Francisco, Stanford and Columbia (New York) University, says coordinator Dr. Murray B. Gardner, director of the UC Davis Center for AIDS Research and professor of medical pathology. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Gardner will moderate the symposium with fellow UC Davis AIDS researcher Paul A. Luciw, associate professor of pathology. "We want to exchange information with our scientific colleagues on not just AIDS, but other chronic viral infections, such as hepatitis and herpes," says Gardner.
