Annual Powwow To Celebrate Indian Culture

Indian nations from throughout the United States will celebrate their culture through song and dance during the 25th annual Native American Cultural days powwow Saturday and Sunday, April 8-9, at UC Davis. Sponsored by Native American students, the program includes arts and crafts, dancing and traditional American Indian food. The weekend powwow is a re-enactment of certain spiritual and emotional aspects of Indian humanity, according to Lucky Preston, this year's program coordinator of the weeklong Native American Cultural Days program April 3-9. "Every song, gesture and detail of the ornate clothing illustrates a part of Indian heritage as a people with roots in the past," says Preston. "The powwow preserves Native American traditions of sharing, hospitality and generosity."
