Indian nations from throughout the United States will celebrate their culture through song and dance during the 24th annual Native American Cultural Days powwow Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, at UC Davis. Sponsored by Native American students, the program includes arts and crafts, dancing and traditional American Indian food. The weekend powwow is a re-enactment of certain spiritual and emotional aspects of Indian humanity, according to Lucky Preston, this year's program coordinator of the weeklong Native American Cultural Days program April 4-10. "Every song, gesture and detail of the ornate clothing illustrates a part of Indian heritage as a people with roots in the past," says Preston. "The powwow preserves Native American traditions of sharing, hospitality and generosity."
