Art connoisseurs in Europe and Washington State have handed UC Davis art professor Lynn Hershman three kudos. She has received one of the highest national awards given to contemporary American artists from the Seattle Art Museum -- a $50,000 commission to create an interactive electronic art work over the next year. In addition, "Virtual Voices," a video she created last academic year about national experts talking about new technology, is one of the 50 videos chosen for the German Award for Video Art 1994. And, "Recovered Diaries," a video created with the help of UC Davis students about the effects of war on women and children, received a special recognition award in early September at the Locarno International Film and Video Festival in France.
