"California Tile" is one of the exhibitions that constitute the 1992 California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Art, presented by the John Natsoulas Gallery of Davis. The conference, to be held April 2-5, features lectures, demonstrations, slide shows, tours, exhibitions and opportunities to meet with artists, collectors and educators in a variety of locations in Davis. The "California Tile" show represents a survey of contemporary tile creations in California. Works by 10 artists have been selected to provide examples of their ideas and approaches. A slide and photo survey will depict the architectural applications of tile. Donna Billick, curator of the exhibition, said there is an immense diversity of styles, color and texture of handmade and commercial tiles. Their functional and decorative uses include covering floors, counters, tubs, spas, fountains, benches, pools and serving as art objects. "Artists, architects and designers have unlimited opportunity for creating distinctive, permanent expressive environments with the tile medium," Billick said.
