Lectures, films and a culture fair are among the free events open to the public April 18-24 during Asian Pacific Cultural Week at UC Davis. Event highlights include "Asian Americans in the Media," a panel discussion Monday, April 19, focusing on the book "Rising Sun"; "Do Sweatshops Still Exist?" a panel discussion Wednesday, April 21, of the plight of garment workers; "The Road to Together," a performance Wednesday, April 21, by an Asian American group called Here and Now that gives insights into Asian American life through a series of vignettes combining music, dance, poetry and drama; "Mail-order Brides," a panel discussion Thursday, April 22, of a locally produced mail-order bride catalog, featuring Asian American residents from the area; and the Asian Pacific Culture Faire, a daylong festival Saturday, April 24, featuring ethnic foods, colorful dances and music, as well as games and crafts for children and performances by regional groups.
