Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to fly in space and a noted scientist and educator, will be available to news media at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, before she gives a public lecture at UC Davis. Reporters will be able to talk to Jemison in the Garrison Room of the Memorial Union, next to Freeborn Hall. Jemison served as a NASA astronaut for six years. She is now a professor of environmental studies at Dartmouth College, where she has established the Jemison Institute for Advancing Technology in Developing Countries. Her lecture, "Science and Technology: Its Effect on Our Everyday Lives," will begin at 8 p.m. in Freeborn Hall on the UC Davis campus.
