Umberto Eco, internationally recognized Italian writer, academic and social commentator, will speak at the University of California, Davis, Wednesday, June 15. His talk, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 4 p.m. in MU II in the Memorial Union.
Eco's presentation, sponsored by the Humanities Institute, is titled, "An Author and His Interpreters." A social hour will follow his talk.
Eco is the author of best-selling novels in the United States and Europe, including "The Name of the Rose" and "Foucault's Pendulum," the former of which was made into a film starring Sean Connery. In addition, he is the author of several academic books, including "Semiotics and the Philosophy of Language." His social commentary includes "Travels in Hyperreality."
