Avoiding being blinded by national spotlight, Aggies prepare

After pulling off the biggest upset in UC Davis history, beating No. 1-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville last week, the Aggies are readying for their next round in the playoffs this Saturday at home. The second-round game with the University of Central Oklahoma will be played Nov. 30 at Toomey Field. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., PST.Despite getting national attention for its amazing performance last Saturday, the Aggie team is trying hard not to be distracted, says Doug Dull, assistant athletic director. Instead, the team aims to treat the upcoming game as the next in the season's series. The battle cry for the UC Davis football team prior to its trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville for the opening round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs was "Remember Holyfield." The Aggies were a decided underdog against the Javelinas, and had hoped their team could pull off an upset similar to that of Evander Holyfield in the recent heavyweight boxing match with Mike Tyson. The playoff win was the first ever by UC Davis away from Toomey Field on campus.
