What: The transition to college life begins for thousands of students when families help their children move into residence halls at the University of California, Davis. More than 23,200 students will begin the fall quarter with the first day of class Thursday, Sept. 28. During the first week students will be purchasing books and supplies from the campus bookstore as well as meeting faculty advisers and checking on financial aid opportunities.
When: Sunday, Sept. 24, 11 a.m., move-ins begin and continue through the afternoon
Monday, Sept. 25, 8 a.m., students will be jamming the campus bookstore, financial aid office and Recreation Hall.
Where: High-rise residence halls; Intersection of California Avenue and Regan Hall Drive; North end of campus (see map)
Students seeking information on college loans will be at the main financial aid office at the University House annex (see map).
Recreation-minded students will be playing basketball, weight lifting, jogging and aerobic dancing at the Rec Hall (see map).
Visuals: Students and parents unloading clothing, bicycles, computers and personal items as students move into dormitories. Tearful goodbyes, hugs and meeting new roommates will be part of the first-day activities.
Parking and Directions: From Sacramento, take Interstate 80 westbound to the Highway 113 exit and head north to Woodland. Turn right after taking the Russell Boulevard exit and drive east to California Avenue. Right on California Avenue and right on Regan Hall Drive.
