Bill Moyers to bring 'Soul of Democracy' to town

Television journalist and best-selling author Bill Moyers will speak on "The Soul of Democracy," during a public lecture Monday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. in the Sacramento Community Center Theater. A press conference will be held at 7:30 p.m., a half hour prior to the event, in the theater's Green Room. Seating is limited so press should confirm by noon on Dec. 1 if they wish to attend. Filming will be allowed for the first 10 minutes of the lecture only. Earlier in the day, Moyers -- part of the 1997-98 UC Davis Presents Distinguished Speakers Series -- will participate in a class discussion on campus with UC Davis political science students. Moyers' 25-year journalism career has earned him more than 30 Emmy Awards for excellence and a George Foster Peabody award for political reporting. In addition to serving as executive editor of the "Bill Moyers' Journal," he has been a senior news analyst for "CBS Evening News" and a chief correspondent for "CBS Reports." He's been involved in over 200 hours of public affairs television programming, such as "The Public Mind," and has produced five books, including "Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth."
