Body Identified, Man Arrested in Connection With Death

University of California, Davis, police arrested a man Thursday night in connection with the death of Jose Reyes of Dixon, whose body was discovered Thursday on the southern edge of the UC Davis campus. Capt. Michael Corkery said the suspect, who identified himself as 24-year-old Ruben Munoz Campos, is being held in Solano County Jail in Fairfield. He said Campos is a transient, and UC Davis police are attempting to confirm his identity. Corkery said two adult nephews of Reyes identified him as the victim Thursday afternoon and indicated their uncle, an unemployed farm worker whose permanent residence is in Mexico, was about 50 years old. Campos and Reyes, who are acquaintances, have no known affiliation with UC Davis, according to UC Davis police. A Solano County employee tending some tree seedlings discovered Reyes' body Thursday morning on the northern bank of Putah Creek near a bridge on Old Davis Road, about one mile south of Interstate 80. In that area, the center of the creek serves as the boundary between UC Davis and Solano County. Corkery said the Solano County coroner's office is expected to perform an autopsy on Reyes' body today. However, he added, results may not be available for at least a week. Anyone who has been in the area recently or may have any information to assist the investigation is urged to contact UC Davis police at (530) 752-1230.
