Brave New World of Robotic-Equipped Vehicles to be On Display

To improve worker safety and efficiency, UC Davis and the California Department of Transportation have developed robotic equipped vehicles for use along the state's highways. The futuristic technology includes an "intelligent herbicide application system" that locates weeds alongside the roadway and precisely applies herbicide in the appropriate spots, as well as a robotic stenciling system that can automatically paint roadway markings with unprecedented precision and safety. Demonstrations of these and other advanced maintenance and construction equipment are scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Advanced Highway Maintenance and Construction Technology Center (AHMCT) at UC Davis. The center is located in the Academic Surge Building alongside parking lot #46. New technologies will be demonstrated in 19 exhibits covering roadway, roadside and structural operations.
