How California's businesses and communities can work together in solving environmental problems is the theme of a legal conference to be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at the University of California, Davis.
The annual conference, this year titled "California Business, Communities and the Environment: Toward a Cooperative Future," is being sponsored by the UC Davis law school and the UC Davis Environmental Law Society.
Douglas Wheeler, California Secretary of Resources, will be the keynote speaker at the noon luncheon to be held at the Silo Pub on campus.
Other speakers during the day will include representatives from the National Audubon Society, California Department of Fish and Game, California Rural Legal Assistance, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Chevron, USA, Inc.
Issues to be addressed include recent reforms of California's Environmental Quality Act; habitat preservation; community action suits; environmental justice vs. the free market; air quality; finance and property contamination; and California's water quality and supply.
Conference registration begins at 8 a.m. at 66 Roessler Hall, where the morning sessions will be held. Afternoon sessions will be held in both Roessler and at King Hall. A reception follows, at King Hall.
Conference-only fees are $80 for attorneys seeking minimum continuing legal education credit, $25 for the general public and $5 for students. Lunch costs an additional $10 per person, and reservations must be made by Feb. 7.
