A town hall meeting on social justice will be held Monday, Jan. 15, on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in Freeborn Hall at UC Davis. The event, organized by the Coalition for Social Justice, will take place between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Speakers include Ada Sosa-Riddell of Chicana/Chicano Studies, Vilasen Govender of the Sacramento Chapter of the NAACP and local political figures. Workshops will focus on specific social issues such as the California Civil Rights Initiative, Proposition 187, the regents decision last summer on affirmative action, women's issues, the rights of the gay/lesbian/bisexual community and economic security. The goal of the meeting, say its organizers, is to "share information and ideas on breaking the chains of injustice." The Coalition for Social Justice includes among its members campus faculty, staff and Davis community members. Tip by Maril Stratton, News Service, (916) 752-3683, mrstratton@ucdavis.edu.
