Roberts, Chair Capital Region Institute RE: CRI's Regional Futures Project reports New insights about regional growth and quality of life will be the focus of a press briefing on Thursday, May 3, 2001 by the Capital Region Institute (CRI). At that meeting, CRI will announce the release of two documents, both designed to promote understanding, ideas and potential solutions on a broad range of challenges facing the region's leaders. Topics include transportation, regional air quality, telecommunications infrastructure, solid waste management and many others. Each member of the press and media will be provided a copy of all products unveiled at the May 3 event. The release of these materials will be done in concert with a brief formal announcement by the chief executive officers of California State University at Sacramento (President Don Gerth), Los Rios Community College District (Chancellor Brice Harris, representing the region's five community colleges) and the University of California at Davis (Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef), each of whom is represented on the CRI Board of Directors. CRI is a unique partnership of the region's higher education institutions, working together to identify applied research resources to address issues of regional growth and quality of life. This work is done in order to inform and assist the region's policy makers and leaders deal with the ever-increasing difficult challenges that come with growth and larger populations. The event will be held at the Sierra Health Foundation, 1321 Garden Highway, Sacramento, and will begin at 1:00 p.m. and last no more than 30 minutes.
