Flying, bouncing and crashing off surfaces like giant atomic particles in a supercollider, the dancers of Streb/Ringside are known for catapulting audiences into a new-century dance experience.
The daredevil troupe will appear in the Main Theatre at UC Davis for two performances Jan. 22 and 23, beginning at 8 p.m.
In addition, Elizabeth Streb will conduct a half week of residency activities, including an open rehearsal and a school matinee performance.
The company's performance on campus will feature two world premieres: "Fly," in which a dancer is harnessed to a giant lever balanced by 400 pounds of counterweights, and "Across," which has classic Streb moves performed on a moving surface.
"It's not like choreography you have ever seen before," according to a reviewer with the New York Post. "It's all high-impact stuff -- people throwing themselves against walls with bone-crushing abandon, hurtling down ropes and bouncing on trampolines...with oohs and aahs from the audience, and an effect at its best rather like a fireworks display."
