The President's Council on Sustainable Development is taking itsshow on the road and coming to California to listen to growers, researchers and community members involved in sustainableagriculture, commonly defined as agriculture that is environmentally and economically sound, and socially just. Among those chosen to share information during this week's San Francisco roundtable meeting is Jill Shore Auburn, associate director of the UC Davis-based Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program. The meeting will help the council develop recommendations for a national strategy on sustainable development. "We're honored that our UC program is acknowledged as a leader in sustainable ag research and funding," Auburn says. "We and our partners from the agriculture industry are eager to describe the very successful, sustainable work of many of our state's farmers and researchers." UC SAREP funds sustainable ag research, disseminates information on sustainability and coordinates long-term farmland research.
