With this week's nomination of graduate studies dean M.R.C. Greenwood as associate director for science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the White House has drafted two UC Davis experts for D.C. assignments. Pending Senate confirmation, Greenwood, also a professor in the departments of nutrition and internal medicine, will join political science professor Bruce Jentleson on the Clinton team. Jentleson, on leave as director of UC Davis' Washington Center, is working in Secretary of State Warren Christopher's office as an adviser in such policy areas as the Middle East, Russia, Europe and international peacekeeping. Greenwood will advise the president, the executive branch and the Congress on science and technology policy and coordinate federal research and development efforts.
