Members of the public are invited to discuss the national deficit during the free community forum "The $4 Trillion Debt: ToughChoices about Soaring Federal Deficits" on Saturday, Aug. 28. Sponsored by UC Davis' University Extension in conjunction with the National Issues Forums Institute in Dayton, Ohio, the forum provides opportunities to explore various aspects of this complex issue, hear many views on its impact, and voice possible solutions. The specific areas to be explored are discretionary spending, defense decisions, "the uncontrollables" such as entitlements, and revenue solutions. Moderators for the discussion are Mark Miller, an attorney with Stone, Keck, LaPlante and Foltz in Evansville, Indiana; and Estella West, a home economist with UC Cooperative Extension in Santa Clara County. The forum is part of a three-day Public Policy Institute. It takes place 3:30-6 p.m. at the Davis Senior Citizens Center, 646 A Street.
