Computer Scientist Becomes Four-Time World Bridge Champ

Charles "Chip" Martel, UC Davis chair of computer science, is now a four-time winner of the world championship in bridge after acing the 1994 World Bridge Championships in Albuquerque recently. He and partner Lou Stansbie of Castro Valley also won the championship in 1982, 1985 and 1987. Only one other pair has won four or more World Bridge Championships in the last 15 years. As a result of this victory, Martel and Stansbie are now ranked as the third best bridge pair in the world.
