How California's businesses and communities can work together in solving environmental problems is the theme of an upcoming conference sponsored by the UC Davis law school and UC Davis Environmental Law Society. The daylong conference, to be held Saturday, Feb. 12, is titled "California Business, Communities and the Environment: Toward a Cooperative Future." Douglas Wheeler, California secretary of resources, will give the keynote address. Speakers and participants represent such diverse organizations as National Audubon Society, California Department of Fish and Game, California Rural Legal Assistance, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Chevron USA Inc. Topics to be addressed include reform of the California Environmental Quality Act; habitat preservation; air quality; environmental considerations of business finance; and environmental justice vs. the free market. Conference registration will begin at 8 a.m. in Roessler Hall on the UC Davis campus.
