D.C. Center Gives Student Time in the White House

When Caitlin Darke first came to UC Davis in 1989 as a freshman, she never imagined that her college education would include interning for both Hillary Rodham Clinton and budget director Leon Panetta at the White House. The UC Davis Washington Center's internship program provided the opportunity. "I learned more about government while at the White House than I have learned in all my years of classroom learning at college," says Darke. "The six months that I spent in Washington provided me with the opportunity to work on the health-care reform package, which is one of the biggest pieces of legislation ever presented to Congress." The Washington Center is a teaching and research center established to bring the Capitol's resources and educational environment to the UC Davis community.
