-- The Department of Environmental Health and Safety has received the Award of Distinction from the National Safety Council's Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Division. UC Davis is only the fourth campus to receive this award since its creation in 1989. UC Davis was recognized for its creative problem-solving in re-engineering Environ-mental Health and Safety's programs and services. Over the past eight years, the unit, directed by Julie McNeal, has changed from a regulatory to a consultant/adviser culture and adopted a "generalist" concept that has improved communication, teamwork and customer service.
