Discussion to Focus on Women's Issues in California Primary

An informal discussion of issues affecting women in the 1992 California primary election will be held at noon Tuesday, May 26, at the University of California, Davis. The program, titled "Election 1992," will be held in MU II of the Memorial Union. The discussion will be moderated by Holly Potter, legislative intern for the UC Davis Women's Resources and Research Center (WRRC); and Faith Tusing, coordinator for the campus chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). Participants are invited to bring their ballot information pamphlets. "In the past year, several events have brought to light the lack of women's influence and representation in the legislative arena," said Potter. She cited the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings, the threat of the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade and President Bush's veto of a parental leave bill as examples of the "gender gap" in the political process. "Election 1992" is sponsored by the WRRC and Campus NOW. It is free and open to the public. People with disabilities should contact the WRRC at (916) 752-3372 to arrange for accommodations.
