Distinguished Retirees Featured in Video Histories

Video histories of distinguished University of California, Davis, emeriti professors and retired administrators and staff are being produced for public viewing and for historical purposes by the UC Davis Emeriti Association. The videos (VHS, 1/2") feature 40- to 70-minute interviews with a wide range of people from various campus departments. Davis Community Television will air the next video on Channel 5 at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11. Herman J. Phaff, professor emeritus of the departments of food, science and technology, and bacteriology, will be featured. Currently available in the ongoing series are videos of G. Ledyard Stebbins, professor emeritus of genetics, and Charles M. Rick, professor emeritus of vegetable crops. Videos in production include interviews with Melvin M. Green, professor emeritus of genetics; Richard Swift and Jerome W. Rosen, both professors emeriti of music; J. Richard Blanchard, the first university librarian for the campus; and James H. Shideler, professor emeritus of music. "We're trying to preserve some of the visual history of the people who've contributed to this campus," said Alan A. Stambusky, professor emeritus of dramatic art and chair of the association's video and historical records committee. "These videos will be our legacy to future students and researchers, and we plan to give them to Special Collections in the campus library." Others on the committee are Blanchard; Everard d'Harnoncourt, professor emeritus of dramatic art; Constant C. Delwiche, professor emeritus of land, air and water resources and president of the association; Harry C. Kohl, professor emeritus of environmental horticulture; Rosen and Shideler.
