UC Davis remains a very popular campus for high school and community college transfer students who want a UC education, according to Gary Tudor, director of undergraduate admissions. A record number of potential first-year students, 16,800, applied for admission to UC Davis for the upcoming fall quarter and more than 5,000 community college students also applied -- marking the second largest transfer pool in the history of the campus. Tudor anticipates that 3,200 new freshmen and 1,600 community college transfers will actually enroll this fall. Twenty percent of the freshmen class will be students from underrepresented ethnic minorities, which is up 5 percentage points from any previous year, notes Tudor. "This was an excellent year for bringing in a diverse, high-quality class that is well distributed throughout California," says Tudor. "This campus has been busy this year doing targeted and very focused recruitment around the state."
