The biggest news about the 25th anniversary of Earth Day this month may be the easy Internet access to environmental information. Media are invited to attend an Internet workshop at UC Davis from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 13, to learn how to find environment stories on line. The workshop is hosted by the UC Davis Information Center for the Environment, an electronic center offering data from campus-based research projects as well as environmental information, including maps, from more than 30 collaborating federal, state and private programs. Aimed at Internet novices as well as enthusiasts, the workshop will sample on-line resources available to the plugged-in public and also help reporters find valuable on-line sources for original stories. Workshop participants will receive an "Internet Kit" containing public-domain software and Internet hints to use in the home or office. "UC Davis is a major participant in the web of California sites helping to democratize environmental information," says center director Jim Quinn, a professor of environmental studies. The center's Internet address via World Wide Web is http://ice.ucdavis.edu/.
