Eating Disorders the Focus of Design Exhibition

Eating disorders are the focus of a new exhibition co-produced by a UC Davis design professor that will be on display through Nov. 29 at the Fairfield, Calif., Center Gallery, 1035 Texas St. Kathi Sylva, UC Davis assistant design professor, and Robin Lasser, of the San Jose photography department, have created graphic imagery to educate the public about eating disorders including bulimia, anorexia nervosa and compulsive overeating. The exhibit is titled, "Eating Disorders in a Disordered Culture." Their goal is to build public awareness, understanding of, and support for, people with eating disorders. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, a panel discussion titled "Public Art/Social Change" will take place at the same site as the exhibit. Panelists will include public artists, sociologists and psychologists. In addition to the exhibit, Lasser and Sylva have created a billboard that will be displayed along I-80 between Vallejo and Fairfield, which says, "Fear of Fat Eats Us Alive: Some women don't just diet. They die."
