Richard Karban, associate professor of entomology at the University of California, Davis, received the George Mercer Award from the Ecological Society of America for his 1989 paper "Community Organization of Erigeron glaucus folivores: Effects of Competition, Predation, and Host Plant" (Ecology, 70:1028-1039). The award, which honors outstanding papers in the field of ecology, is given annually to an author under the age of 40 in memory of Lt. George Mercer.
