Edward Depeters

-- The 1999 Applied Nutrition Award from Nutrition Professionals Inc. was recently awarded to Edward DePeters, UC Davis professor of animal science, in recognition of the outstanding quality of his work in applied nutrition. DePeters' studies have involved three basic areas of research: how dietary protein affects milk protein synthesis by the cow, dietary modification of fatty acid composition of milk fat, and by-products being used as feeds for dairy cattle. His studies with milk protein are aimed at improving the yield of cheese and other products, while his research on fat modification through manipulation of cattle diets has application to butter manufacturing and improving consumer health. His work on by-products has helped to clarify differences in feed intake by cattle. Nutrition Professionals Inc. is an independent dairy nutrition and management consulting firm.
