Entries are being accepted for the 14th annual Celeste Turner Wright Poetry Prize competition, open to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of California, Davis.
A $100 cash prize will be awarded to the student who submits the best poem or group of poems. The competition, sponsored by the Academy of American Poets, is designed to encourage the artistic and creative development of student poets. Contests are now held at more than 170 colleges and universities.
Entrants may submit up to six poems by Tuesday, April 14, to Wright, a professor emeritus of English, at Room 150 of Titus Hall at UC Davis.
Wright was the first female professor at UC Davis and the first Ph.D. recipient of either sex to teach in the humanities on campus. She chaired the English department for 27 years. Her three volumes of poetry are "Etruscan Princess," "A Sense of Place" and "Seasoned Timber." She also has published a memoir, "University Woman."
For a complete list of rules or more information, contact Wright at (916) 752-2257 or (916) 753-2372.
