Environmental Law Conference to Eye Ag Issues

Intersections between agriculture and the environment -- where such issues as farmland preservation, the use of biotechnology, and water allocation emerge -- will be discussed March 13, at the annual Environmental Law Conference at UC Davis. Titled "California Agriculture: Challenges and Solutions in the Nineties," the conference is sponsored by the UC Davis School of Law and the school's Environmental Law Society. Douglas Wheeler, California Secretary of Resources, will be the luncheon and keynote speaker. Others on the program include William Liebhardt, director of the UC Davis-based UC Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program; William Kahrl, editor of "The California Water Atlas"; Pamela Marrone, president of Novo Nordisk's Entotech Inc.; Ralph Lightstone, of California Rural Legal Assistance; and Richard Howitt, UC Davis professor of agricultural economics. Conference sessions will be held at the law school and at Roessler Hall.
