Hundreds of bicycle enthusiasts will put their pedals to the metal for the grueling Davis Double Century bike tour on Saturday, May 18, during the highlight of the fourth annual Davis Cyclebration '96. The weeklong event celebrates bicycling with a variety of activities, including the one-day 200-mile road tour through the hills around Lake Berryessa and Clear Lake. Cyclebration '96 is a series of events that promote the beneficial use of bikes for transportation, recreation, fitness and sport, says David Takemoto-Weerts, event co-organizer and bicycle program coordinator at UC Davis. For the less hardy, on the same day there will be a historical bike tour around the city of Davis and on Sunday, May 19, there will be an antique and vintage bicycle competition and exhibition on the football field at UC Davis.
