Facilities Manager Reyes Leaves Campus for UC Irvine Position

Facilities manager George Reyes has been appointed assistant vice chancellor for facilities at UC Irvine effective April 10. "George has made very significant contributions to both the Facilities Services Department and to the entire Davis campus and he will be greatly missed by all of us," said Darrell Ralls, facilities services director and until February the associate vice chancellor for facilities at UC Davis. In his new job, Reyes will be responsible for custodial services, fleet management, grounds services, building and utility operations and maintenance, deferred maintenance, and purchased utilities. Reyes, a 15-year employee at UC Davis, is deputy director of the Facilities Services Department in charge of custodial services, the fire department, grounds division, and all of the department's human resources activities. Originally hired as the custodial manager in 1985, Reyes was appointed deputy director in 1992. Previously the Woodland native was a building and grounds supervisor for Sacramento Municipal Utility District for six years. Reyes has been a valued colleague in many human resource programs across the campus. In 1998, he received the highest campus diversity honor, the Deanna Falge Award, for his active support and facilitation in the areas of outreach, diversity, upward mobility and community service opportunities. Reyes has also funded and facilitated training sessions to raise diversity awareness and help facilities staff understand why valuing differences is important. "George's contributions in the management of facilities' programs is well known and he has been one of the significant influences for improving operations and elevating the services and accomplishments of personnel throughout facilities," Ralls said.
