-- An article published in the October Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America ranked UC Davis' faculty members in the ecology, evolution and behavior programs No. 1 in the nation. The article was written by Michael Brett -- an assistant professor in the University of Washington Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a former postdoctoral researcher for UC Davis environmental science and policy professor Charles Goldman -- and Liesbeth Brouwer and Lindzie Brett of the same UC Davis department. The paper found UC Davis had the largest number of publications (2,605 between 1988 and 1997) of the 63 universities assessed as well as the largest number of faculty members (197). The authors concluded that UC Davis was underrated by the National Research Council in its 1995 survey of reputational ratings, which had a bias toward prestigious private universities.
