Jack Ives, a professor of geography at UC Davis, has been invited by the Ford Foundation to lead an international team of mountain and Third World scholars in a field workshop with the Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences in Dali, China, this month. The workshop promotes the environmental, economic and social development of hill tribes in Yunnan. Ives was joined by UC Davis colleagues Janet Momsen, professor of geography; Benjamin Orlove, professor of environmental studies; Stefano Varese, professor of Native American studies; and Peggy Swain, a research associate in anthropology.
