Family violence conference to explore latest findings

New approaches to breaking the cycle of family violence willbe discussed during a one-day public policy conference onFriday, Nov. 7, organized by University Extension at UCDavis.The event, "Family Violence: Response, Research andPrevention," will take place 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in theSacramento Convention Center. It offers a comprehensivereview of the best practices for responding to familyviolence and innovative policies for its reduction andprevention.Experts involved in many different aspects of response andprevention -- law enforcement, government, medicine andsocial services -- will share collaborative, neighborhood andcommunitywide efforts taking place across the country.Keynote speakers will be Jacquelyn C. Campbell, an expert ondomestic and teen relationship violence and the healtheffects of family violence on women and children, and Dr.Deborah Prothrow-Stith, assistant dean of government andcommunity programs at the Harvard School of Public Health anda current appointee to President Clinton's Commission onCrime Control and Prevention.In addition, panelists will include experts from the FamilyViolence and Sexual Assault Resource Center at the UC DavisMedical Center, the Office of Women's Health of theCalifornia Department of Health Services, the Family ViolencePrevention Fund of San Francisco, the California Center forHealth Improvement Ministers Against Drugs and Violence inSacramento, UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law andStanford University.u
