The final Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project report will be presented at a public meeting June 28-29 in the main building of the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville. The three-year, $6.5-million congressionally funded project includes assessments of the ecological, economic and social health of the Sierra Nevada. Organized by the UC Davis-based Centers for Water and Wildland Resources, the conference provides a forum for project scientists to present research findings and discuss policy options. A media briefing has been tentatively scheduled for 10-11:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, at the AGR Room in the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center at UC Davis. Key issues will be reviewed by science team leader Don Erman, UC Davis professor of wildlife, fish and conservation biology, and steering committee chair James Space, director of the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station, as well as other team scientists. Copies of the executive summary and first volume will be available at the news briefing and on the Internet at http://ceres.ca.gov/snep or http://alexandria.sdc.ucsb.edu.
