Giving -- most often recognized during the holiday season -- happens year-round through the Human Corps program at UC Davis. The 4-year-old community service program began initially as a resource for steering students to programs in need of volunteers. These days it also involves faculty, staff and the surrounding community. Melissa Miller-Henson, graduate student and program coordinator, says individuals looking for opportunities are not limited to the Human Corps' existing data base of more than 300 listings. "Someone came in looking to work training guide-dog puppies, but we didn't really know anything about it," she says. "We were happy to research how and where to get involved, and now offer a new opportunity for community service."
