Five New Members Named to Cal Aggie Alumni Board

The Cal Aggie Alumni Association (CAAA) welcomes five new members to its board of directors. These five join the board as Francisco Rodriguez '85, M.S. '97, of Woodland, and Meg Stallard '68, also of Woodland, begin their terms as president and vice president/president-elect, respectively. On July 1, Bill Cochran '73 of Springville, Calif., Mike Dawson '92 of Davis, Masoud Kahaynian, Ph.D. '88, of Davis, Alfreda Sebasto '90 of Fresno and Peni Wilson '91 of San Diego began two-year terms on the 23-member board. "These new directors join a team of dedicated alumni volunteers and staff who will be presented with ample challenges during the next two years," said CAAA Executive Director Robert A. Kerr. "I am confident the association is well positioned to meet these opportunities, given the solid foundation laid by past board directors and with our new and returning board leadership." Bill Cochran is vice president of instruction at Porterville College in Porterville, Calif. He has served on the Cal Aggie Athletic Associates board of directors and as an Alumni Ambassador, an active group of CAAA volunteers who help recruit new students to UC Davis. A former UC Davis championship football player with a daughter in the Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh, Cochran has 20 years of experience in high-school and college administration. Mike Dawson, a registered civil engineer at the firm of Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade and Douglas in Sacramento, received CAAA's Young Alumnus Award in 1999. He is a former president of the engineering alumni chapter, a member of CAAA's membership and marketing services committee and a mentor to UC Davis engineering students. Masoud Kahaynian is senior development engineer for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Davis. As a Ph.D. student in environmental engineering at UC Davis, Kahaynian served as president of Alpha Epsilon, an engineering honor society, and as a Graduate Student Association representative. He is a member of the Iranian alumni chapter's board of directors and has helped raise funds for the Iranian scholarship endowment. Alfreda Sebasto is senior account executive at Stoorza, Ziegaus and Metzger, a public relations firm in Fresno. Among her leadership roles in California agricultural organizations, she has served on the Fresno County Farm Bureau board of directors and the California Farm Bureau Young Farmers Committee. Peni Wilson is the owner of A Designer's Influence, which specializes in the interior design of health-care facilities. As president of the San Diego alumni chapter, she successfully worked to revitalize interest and participation in chapter activities among area alumni. She later served on the chapter's board of directors. The principal purpose of CAAA is "to advance the interest and promote the welfare of the University of California and its alumni." The board of directors manages a $1.2 million annual operating budget and nearly $6 million in endowments. It also oversees eight committees, which assist in carrying out the mission of the association through diverse programs and services.
