Five Oakland Residents Face 13 Charges

Three adults and two juveniles, all females from Oakland, face a total of 13 charges including assault and battery after a faculty member at UC Davis foiled a burglary of his office Wednesday afternoon. They are Tanisha Jordan, 18; Nashea Lewis, 20; Taisha Thomas, 18; and two juveniles, age 16 and 17. None are UC Davis students. Each is charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and providing false information to a police officer to avoid prosecution. Additionally, the 17-year-old juvenile is charged with burglary and assault and battery, and the 16-year-old juvenile is charged with burglary. Detective Sgt. Joyce Souza of the UC Davis Police Department said university police responded about 3 p.m. to a 911 call regarding a physical disturbance in Tupper Hall, part of the Medical Science Complex. Souza said a faculty member returned to his third-floor office to find someone going through his backpack. As he tried to hold her and check his personal belongings, a second woman attacked him. At that point, a male graduate student came to the aid of the faculty member. Souza said two other women were found near an elevator and a third was in a car outside the building. The juveniles were taken to Yolo County Juvenile Hall and the three adults to Yolo County Jail. No medical attention was necessary for the accused, the faculty member or the graduate student.
